Howie’s guest is Dr. Wes Parker, the Director of Jazz Studies at North Carolina State University. Under Parker’s direction, the Jazz Program at NC State has grown to offer six jazz ensembles and has performed twice at the annual NCMEA conference. The NC State Jazz Orchestra was recently invited to perform at the annual Midwest Clinic and was excited to be the first collegiate ensemble to represent the state of North Carolina in the 76-year history of the conference. Today’s discussion includes topics concerning building a program at a university without a music major and resources for jazz education.
