The North Carolina Intercollegiate Honor Ensembles seek to provide a collaborative and musically artistic experience for students at the collegiate level from all public and private colleges and universities from North Carolina. The NCIHE will exist to promote music education at the middle and high school levels, encourage continuing music-making at the university level regardless of program of study, connect with current and future music educators, and promote the creation of new music through commissioning projects.
Inaugural Event
The inaugural North Carolina Intercollegiate Honor Band took place on November 5-6, 2023 at the NCMEA Professional Development Conference in Winston-Salem. Guest clinician Michael Haithcock returned to his home state to conduct his first event since his University of Michigan retirement concert on March 31, 2023. His “cycle of trust” was on full display as he prepared collegiate musicians from 23 universities in two days, providing a model for in-service and pre-service music educators. Read more about it in the Winter 2024 edition of the NC Music Educator journal.
