On June 10-13, a group of NCMEA leaders attended the NAfME National Assembly and Hill Day in Washington, DC. The annual event is designed for leadership training, convening with other state MEAs, and meeting with legislators to advocate for funding and legislation to support music education. Three students from Western Carolina University were also able to attend the Collegiate Leadership Advocacy Summit to meet and learn with other collegiates from throughout the U.S.
Participants from NC included: Catherine Butler (NCMEA President); Johnathan Hamiel (NCMEA Past President); Susan Heiserman (NCMEA Executive Director); James Daugherty (NCMEA Advocacy Co-Chair); Jeremy Tucker (NCMEA Advocacy Co-Chair); Kimberly Zimmerman (NAfME Tri-M Council Co-Chair); Amy Bradley (NAfME Editor); and Marna Dodson, Cris Lim, and Katy Riggs (WCU Collegiates).
