Description
Piedmont Community Band (formerly known as Piedmont Prime Time Community Band), based in Cabarrus County North Carolina, is accepting applications for a new director. We are a very active community band that started in 2002. The band typically performs four concerts a year with a membership of 60-80 players per concert, ranging in age from 16-90s. Our members and board of directors are all volunteers with the director being the only paid position in our organization. The mission of Piedmont Community band is to make ongoing instrumental music performance opportunities available to people of all ages who have previous experience in high school, college, or other community organizations. Piedmont Community Band is a 501(c)(3) organization.We currently rehearse only during the academic school year, meeting on Monday nights from 7:00 to 8:30. There are self-directed small groups that meet before rehearsals. Concerts are typically in October, December, March, and late April/early May.
The current salary for the position is $1,650 per year. Ideally, the director will begin January 2025.
Primary Responsibilities:
Select program music for the band
Conduct the band in rehearsals and concerts
Attend monthly board of director meetings (usually held online)
Requirements
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in music with a concentration in instrumental music is preferred
Experience conducting a band
Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills
Exhibit a love of teaching music
The ability to build a strong rapport with members of the band
Display a high level of professionalism
Ability to work with the board of directors
