Description
Merritts Chapel Church in Chapel Hill, NC seeks a skilled pianist to join the music ministry team. The pianist will play for the Adult Choir, accompany congregational hymns, and perform fill music (prelude, interludes, etc) during church services and for weekly rehearsals. This position reports to the Choir Director.Our Adult Choir leads in worship alongside the pianist for services each Sunday morning and for other special occasions. The Church Pianist will attend regular weekly choir rehearsals on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:45pm, participate in pre-worship Sunday rehearsal at 10:00 am, and play during the service on Sunday mornings at 11 am.
Requirements
Necessary skills:
• Ability to play choral anthems and special music of moderate difficulty.
• Experience with and basic knowledge of church music.
• Flexibility, sight-reading, and improvisatory abilities desired.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others.
• Possess good organizational and communication skills.
• This position does not include liturgical planning.
Anticipated time commitments:
• Play for Sunday morning rehearsals starting at 10 am.
• Play choir anthems and hymns or other special music in the Sunday morning service at11 am.
• Accompany Wednesday evening rehearsals for Adult Choir at 7 pm.
• Additional time may be required for special services and church holidays, especiallyChristmas and Easter.
Responsibilities/Duties:
• Play during weekly Sunday rehearsals and services (10 am and 11 am).
• Play as scheduled for special services, TBD.
• Play for choir practices (currently on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:45pm).
• Occasionally play, for extra compensation to be provided by those requesting services,for funerals, memorial services, as needed.
• Arrange for acceptable substitute when unable to attend, with approval from the Choir Director
