Come Hear NC Partners with PBS NC on New Music Series

In partnership with PBS NC, we’re proud to present Shaped by Sound, a 13-episode program celebrating North Carolina’s rich and diverse musical heritage. From bluegrass to hip-hop, indie rock to jazz, this series highlights both the legends and rising stars of our state’s vibrant music scene.

The premiere episode airs on February 6, featuring acclaimed singer-songwriter Iron & Wine (Durham’s own Sam Beam). Subsequent episodes will spotlight an incredible range of artists, including indie rock pioneers Superchunk, Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Nnenna Freelon, hip-hop phenom Reuben Vincent, and old-time music icon Alice Gerrard.

Each episode offers more than just performances. Through intimate interviews, artists share the stories and inspirations behind their music, adding depth to their studio recordings.

Shaped by Sound is more than a music series; it’s a testament to the role North Carolina plays in shaping America’s soundtrack. (We might be biased, but tempted to say, “Roll over, Austin City Limits!”) Catch the series on PBS NC, the PBS app, or YouTube after the broadcast air dates. For the full lineup and a teaser trailer, visit PBS NC’s show announcement.

We’re thrilled to bring this project to life and hope you’ll join us in celebrating North Carolina’s unmatched musical legacy.
