NCMEA is passionate about helping music teachers do their best work by improving their knowledge and job satisfaction. We know that music teachers in rural settings may face some unique challenges and opportunities. For this reason, we are inviting rural K-12 music teachers to join a FREE, fun, easy, low-stress, and high-reward hybrid Professional Learning Community (PLC) during the 2023-24 school year!
We are recruiting K-12 music teachers in rural, public schools from across North Carolina to connect, share, and learn via asynchronous online and live, in-person experiences. Participants must have a current NCMEA membership and space in the PLC will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. We anticipate a maximum of 35 participants. Enrollment in the PLC is a commitment for the entire school year, and members are expected to participate to the fullest extent possible in both the virtual and in-person activities.
PLC TIMELINE:
- Sept-Oct [Virtual] : Enroll in online Canvas course and begin engaging in asynchronous discussions
- Nov 4 [In person] : Participate in a half-day symposium & dinner at the NCMEA Professional Development Conference. Saturday afternoon, Nov. 4, in Winston-Salem. Some travel reimbursement available.
- Nov-Jan [Virtual] : Continue to engage with dedicated online modules, connecting with teachers in an assigned cohort
- Jan-Apr [In person] : Schedule on-site visits with teacher cohort groups. Some travel reimbursement available.
- Jan-Apr [Virtual] : Continue online engagement and discussions
- Apr or May [Virtual] : Participate in a one-day virtual mini-conference, reflecting on the PLC and sharing with other teachers.
The deadline to apply is September 29. The PLC will start on October 2.
