Singing Songs On Google Voice!

How can I reach my students more effectively? Is that question on your mind too? When thinking about reaching students with little to no technology I decided to use Google Voice – a free tool that allows you to call or chat with someone without using your personal phone number.
Here’s how I chose to use this tool. I went to voice.google.com. Then I recorded a voicemail message to my students. You can record up to a 3 minute message so I chose to sing them a song story. You can record up to 9 different greetings so I recorded a song story for each greeting and I switch them daily. I also chose to turn on Do Not Disturb so that students can listen to the message and leave me a voice mail. Google converts their voice message to text and sends me an email. What a joy to share a little piece of music with my students.
I love hearing their messages or even just knowing that my song may brighten their day even if they don’t leave a message. I hope this idea encourages you to think “outside the box” and find innovative ways to connect with your students.
