Chorus Students Raise Money For Music Programs In Eastern NC

In early June, the Glenn High School Vocal Point a cappella choir held a fund-raising event called ACAFEST to aid music programs in Eastern North Carolina impacted by Hurricane Florence.

Glenn students performed with groups from Atkins Academic & Technology High School, Reynolds High School and collegiate groups from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, N.C. State University and High Point University.

“These groups are student-led groups – especially at the university level – that perform pop a cappella music like the groups on the movie Pitch Perfect and the show The Sing Off,” said Carol Earnhardt, the chorus teacher at Glenn.

“The students in Vocal Point planned the event. I was amazed at their focus and work ethic throughout the entire process. I have never seen a group of students work so well together for a common mission!”

Money raised by the event went to the N.C. Music Educators Association disaster fund. This fund is currently being used to help music programs in the Eastern part of the state to replace instruments, equipment and music destroyed in the floods following Hurricane Florence.
