The North Carolina Symphony recently named three NCMEA members as their 2016 Music Educator Award winners.
Scott Laird is the winner of the prestigious 2016 Maxine Swalin Award for Outstanding Music Educator. Laird, Fine Arts Coordinator and Music Instructor at North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, N.C., has been active for over 30 years as a string educator, clinician and conductor.
Elizabeth McCollum, Orchestra Director at Enloe Magnet High School in Raleigh, N.C., is the recipient of the 2016 Jackson Parkhurst Award for Special Achievement. McCollum has taughtwith the Wake County Public Schools for over 30 years.
Lee LaPlace, Music Teacher at Banks Road Elementary, is the inaugural recipient of the 2016 North Carolina Symphony Musicians Award, which recognizes teachers with less than a decade of teaching experience.
