NCMEA is pleased to be a recipient of a CMA Foundation, in conjunction with the National Association for Music Education, Advocacy Grant. These grants support the work of NAfME federated music education associations (MEAs) by augmenting existing advocacy initiatives and creating new advocacy opportunities.
Over the next year, NCMEA will use this grant to support advocacy training across our membership and bring the training to the members where they are, not making the training one size fits all. We cannot stress enough the importance of recognizing the need to reach more members, especially from underrepresented or remote areas of NC. The vastness of North Carolina’s geography poses an obstacle to our educators in the most needy communities being able to attend state level training. Reducing obstacles in advocacy training and scaffolding a support framework is critical to engaging and maintaining knowledgeable advocates for the future of our profession. NCMEA will improve our efforts by providing music educators with resources such as articles, training and webinars on topics relating to working in and supporting diverse populations, as well as inclusive practices in music education and social emotional learning (SEL) as they relate to music education.
